November Newsletter 2011

Dear parents, guardians and students,

I can’t believe that the Christmas is nearly here! We have had a fantastic first term back at LYT, and there are plenty of exciting activities planned for next year.

Annie
How wonderful it was and a big thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success. Can you please make special mention of the number of raffle prizes we received from families. We are still finalizing the finances, but it looks that as well as being a great show, it will have raised some very welcome funds for LYT.

We are delighted to announce that our side project of Annie was an overwhelming success – the positive comments keep flooding in! We practically had three sold out performances and a huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the show! A very special thanks to the parents of LYT students for sourcing so many raffle prizes! We are still finalising the finances but looks like the show has raised a good bit of money for Largs Youth Theatre. The profits from the show will go towards funding activities for our 10th anniversary.

NEW – Classes for Adults!
Have you always had that burning desire to act? Maybe you’ve always wanted to find out more about theatre sound and lighting? Or maybe you love to sing or dance?
LYT are delighted to announce that, after the success of our adult Annie ensemble, we will be starting a new set of workshops for adults! These classes will be open to anyone aged 16+ and will commence on Monday 16thJanuary with limited spaces available. Cost is £75 for a block of 10 classes and will run on Monday nights from 7-8.30pm. If anyone is interested in fulfilling a lifelong desire to get involved, please call 07905 668 195 to reserve your space.

NEW – “Glee” style class for secondary students
We are delighted to announce that we are planning to run an exciting new showchoir class for secondary students who enjoy singing and dancing, starting in February. More details in the New Year!

Fees
A reminder that the deadline for payment of fees for next term is this week. Any places not paid for by Nov 25th will be offered out to our lengthy waiting lists. Any parent experiencing difficulties making payment should speak to Johann. All conversations will be treated in the strictest confidence.

10th Anniversary
We are approaching our 10th anniversary celebrations in 2012 and are planning a number of exciting events and productions - more details in the New Year. However we are still looking for ideas for a “family” event – in other words a big birthday party! If you have any ideas as to how we can celebrate our 10th birthday, please get in touch with any member of the committee or tutor team.

Panto Trip
Hopefully plenty of students will have taken up the offer of the reduced rate tickets for the panto – “Beauty and the Beast”. Those who have booked a place and handed their money in should meet in the Vikingar shop area on Thursday, December 15th at 7.00pm. Those attending are encouraged to dress up as their favourite fairytale character!

Jason and the Argonauts
Our S1-6 classes are currently working on a new and exciting production of “Jason and the Argonauts” – taking place in March. As of January, both S1-2 and S3+ students will be attending the same class time of 7-9.30pm – with both classes rehearsing together for their show. Details on tickets and dates will be given in January.

Health & Safety
This, along with child protection, is something we take very seriously. Please note that all primary aged children must be brought to the door of their class by an adult. If they are early, an adult must remain with them until they can get in to their class. They must also be collected from their class by an adult. If you wish your child to leave class unaccompanied, they need to bring a letter giving parental permission.

Parking
Vikingar management are still asking us to request that parents do not park in either the disabled parking bays or the taxi bay at the front of Vikingar. This request is being made to all users of Vikingar as access for disabled patrons is being impeded, so please park considerately!

Facebook page
Our Facebook group “Largs Youth Theatre” is growing fast!

And finally from all the tutors and committee at Largs Youth Theatre, we would like to thank you all for making 2011 such an exciting year for the organisation. We would like to take this opportunitity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! We look forward to seeing everyone back at classes on 17th or 18th January – as we embark on our special anniversary year.

With best wishes.

Janet
