Revised class times
If you have received this newsletter, your child must have been in the right place at the right time this week! Just for info though, these are the class times for this session. There are a few differences from last year.
Class Tuesday Wednesday
Drama Tots (formerly Music Box) 3.30-4.15
P1-2 4.15-5.00 3.30-4.15
P3-4 4.15-5.15
P5-7 6.30-7.45 5.15-6.30
S1-2 7.00-8.15
S3-6 8.15-9.30
As you will see, we have renamed our youngest class “Drama Tots” instead of “Music Box”. We think that this better reflects the class’s activities. There are still a couple places available in this class for the coming session, so please spread the word to anyone who you think might be interested.
We were hoping to run additional P3-4 and S1-2 classes on Tuesdays, but unfortunately we don’t have the numbers to make these financially viable. We’re thinking about using these two class times for additional activities from next January, possibly including an adult drama class on Tuesday evenings.
Registration Forms
If you haven’t completed a registration form this session i.e. at enrolment night, can I ask that you complete the enclosed form and return it to class next week. It is important that we have current contact, medical details etc. on file for all students.
National Theatre of Scotland - Five Minute Theatre
You may remember that our senior class took part in this event back in June. Their production of 'Under Space - A Modern Opera' was beamed around the world as part of the National Theatre of Scotland's Five Minute Theatre event. All 253 pieces of theatre, including our own, have now been uploaded onto their website www.fiveminutetheatre.com. The link to the video of our performance is near the top of the “Watch Again” page.
Bag pack
Our bag pack at Tesco Irvine in June raised a rather disappointing £370 for funds, but many thanks to the small band of volunteers who got out of their beds early on a Sunday to help out! We are hoping to get a bag pack more locally in the next few months which will hopefully be better supported.
Largs Viking Festival parade – THIS WEEKEND!!!
The annual parade through the town centre is planned this Saturday August 28th. We have again been asked to take part.
We are meeting at Morrison’s loading bay (just to the left of the supermarket) at 1.30pm. The parade departs at 2.00pm and finishes at the Viking Village at 2.30pm. We will have plenty of helpers on the day, but parents (particularly of the younger children) are welcome to walk with us too. Please note that all P1-7 children MUST be collected at the end of the parade from the Viking Village by a parent or other family member.
It would be great if students could dress up for the parade. You might like to go as a rock star (punk, New Romantic, glam, heavy metal etc) to help publicise Largs Has Got Talent which happens at the end of the Viking Week. Or you might like to dress up as something else, the more colourful the better! Any problems on the day, please call Johann on 07905 668195.
We have also been given a couple of slots on the main stage (next to the Viking Village) to promote Annie (3.30pm) and Largs Has Got Talent (3.45pm). If your child is involved in either, you should have been contacted with details, but if not please call Johann on 07905 668195. Ex-LYT student, Matt Hickman and his band, Brown Bear and the Bandits will also be playing at 4.45pm, so please do try to come along to show your support for LYT students, past and present.
Largs Has Got Talent 2011 – RAFFLE PRIZES NEEDED!!
All the auditions have now taken place for LHGT (sponsored by Nardini’s Café) this year and the judges have picked the finalists. The big night is at Barrfields Theatre on Friday, September 2nd at 8.00pm (doors open 7.30pm). Apologies for the late start, but this is to accommodate the “River City” filming schedule for the judges.
Tickets are selling out fast, so to avoid being disappointed, please book now. These can be bought online at www.largstalent.co.uk or by calling Johann on 07905 668195.
This is our major fundraiser of the year, so please show your support. We would really appreciate donations for the raffle. These can either be sent in to class next week or brought along on the night. A lucky programme draw will also be taking place with a prize of a family ticket to see the panto, Robinson Crusoe & The Caribbean Pirates at the SECC.
“Annie” tickets on sale
Many of our students (and some parents!) are now in rehearsals for the production of “Annie” on November 3rd – 5th. There will be three performances including a matinee on Saturday, November 5th. Tickets are likely to be in high demand, so we are including a booking form with this newsletter. It’s shaping up to be a great family show with a very strong cast, so we’d strongly recommend that you get your ticket order in as soon as possible.
Largs Youth Theatre merchandise
In response to demand from our students, we are planning to start selling LYT hoodies and T shirts in the near future. Watch this space for further details!
Annual General Meeting
This will take place on September 29th at 7.00pm in the café at Vikingar. All welcome.
Health & Safety
This, along with child protection, is something we take very seriously. Please note that all primary aged children must be brought to the door of their class by an adult. If they are early, an adult must remain with them until they can get in to their class. They must also be collected from their class by an adult. If you wish your child to leave class unaccompanied, they need to bring a letter giving parental permission.
Parking
Vikingar management are still asking us to request that parents do not park in either the disabled parking bays or the taxi bay at the front of Vikingar. This request is being made to all users of Vikingar as access for disabled patrons is being impeded, so please park considerately!
Facebook page
Our Facebook group “Largs Youth Theatre” is growing fast and now has over 250 fans - please come and join us!
